The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, who set the standards for
Pediatric Dentistry, recommends a child’s first visit be by their first
birthday. We want to make your child’s first visit a positive
experience for the child, parents, and Dr. Gonzales. We take care for
you and your child to enjoy getting to know our doctor and staff.
Comfort is one of our top priorities. A successful first visit will
earn trust and create rapport that will help put your child and you at
ease for future visits. Dr. Gonzales and his staff will explain
everything in detail and are more than happy to answer any questions you
and/or your child may have. Dr. Gonzales is a huge proponent of under
no circumstances restraining children in any way; we do not ever hold or
tie down patients.
We want your child to accept dental treatment and be happy in our environment. No child is alike, and even the same child has different levels of cooperation depending on the day. You are the key to a successful first visit! If you approach the visit in a casual manner, chances are that your child will approach it in a similar manner. It always makes things easier for you and your child to refrain more anyone using words that cause unnecessary fear around your child, such as needle, shot, pull, drill, or hurt. A few days prior to your first appointment, have a quick discussion with your child that he/she is going to the dentist.
If your child has any questions, answer them briefly and always enthusiastically. Be positive and convey good feelings about dental visits as being as a part of growing up. If they pick up on dentistry being a great experience, most likely, they will have a great experience and be more accepting of treatment.
